BRITISHa single length of hair, straw, rope, or other material made up of three or more interlaced strands.“she wore her dark hair in plaits”sooo basically a synonym for braids. Those who wonder about why I chose to brand myself under the name Plaitwoman, yes there is a story behind it. The name comes from my signature long braids I used to wear throughout my middle school, high school and even college career. Up until I moved to Japan, my hair for the most part consisted of braids and perms (the latter of which destroyed my real hair). Braids were always there to heal my hair and protect it. Though I haven’t worn the hairstyle in ages, I use braids or in the case plaits as an analogy for strength, style, culture, individuality and most importantly my roots and pride as a Nigerian American.
